Review of Soda Springs, Idaho

Living in Soda Springs
Star Rating - 12/15/2008
Beautiful to live in the mountains in a small town,
but watch out!
If you aren't "one of them" it is extremely difficult to find and keep employment. The chemical mines pay their people well, but the other businesses are quite locked up with "their own people." The nearest city for any real employment opportunities is a one-hour commute in good weather over a 6000+-foot mountain pass with some very scary truck drivers!
Speaking from experience - 3.5 years there and never made a friend and couldn't land a job. Pocatello is a long commute in icy, snowy winters!
Soda Springs is also a tremendously difficult place to try to unload a house for sale!

If you have trouble making friends in Soda Springs, it is my guess, only a guess, that you are either hard to get along with or a super-introvert. I moved here 5 years ago and almost immediately found many friendly people willing to be my friend. However, if you are looking for the wild night life you might find in Seattle or Salt Lake City or the big cities back east, Soda Springs may not be YOUR friendly place. As for landing a job; if you are qualified, there are jobs available. If not, then you will need to get qualified. I thing that is the bottom line.
